CINEMA, CULTURE, COMMUNITY.

OUR MISSION

Oklahoma Film Exchange was formed to preserve cinema, celebrate culture, and build community. We’re here to Keep Film on Film Row.

Our goal as an organization is to preserve the Film Row screening room as an accessible and inclusive space for film lovers and the performing arts alike.

The Film Row screening room (now called Oklahoma Film Exchange) is located on the first floor of the Paramount Building at 701 W Sheridan in Oklahoma City. In the early days of cinema, film exchanges were opened all over the United States to handle and distribute film reels. Oklahoma City was a key part in this film distribution leading to the creation of Film Row. Of 37 film exchanges in the country, we are the last one left.

Over a century later, the screening room still stands. We are proudly operating this space with the goal to preserve it as a cinema, to create an accessible venue for live events and other art, and to build a community space for all.

We count on and are incredibly grateful for the community’s help in preserving this vital piece of local history and industry. Your donations to our fundraising platform, visiting our space and donating for admission to shows, and telling those you know about us are what keep this place thriving.

OUR VALUES

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of our inclusion and advocacy efforts.

We hope our actions speak louder than written statements.

OFX has a zero-tolerance policy for hate, violence, harassment, or any kind of malicious targeted behavior toward someone for their racial, ethnic, cultural, sexual, gender, religious, etc. identities or disabilities.

  • Please see the Accessibility tab on our Visit page for all details about the screening room and building.

We are working on solutions to make our space more accessible. If you have any concerns or questions regarding accessibility of any kind, our email is listed below.

  • OFX started as a volunteer-run organization and we are now a worker-owned cooperative. We delegate work fairly amongst ourselves, playing to everyone’s individual skillsets. We work based on democratically-guided decisions and reject traditional business hierarchies to reflect our collective ideals.

  • No AI is used in our programming, website, social media, or other promotional or creative material. We do not condone the use of AI from any of our partners, contractors, or collaborators. If you notice any AI “art” that we have shared and didn’t realize, please let us know as soon as possible so it can be removed promptly.

  • Film Row is located on unceded Apache, Caddo, Tonkawa, and Wichita land. OFX acknowledges the historical relationship to Oklahoma of the Comanche, Kiowa, Osage, and Quapaw nations, as well as the forcible removal of Muscogee-Creek, Seminole, Cherokee, Choctaw and Chickasaw nations to this region. We are committed to supporting all 39 sovereign Indigenous nations in Oklahoma.

Film and other arts have a history of excluding Indigenous identities and communities, and perpetrating harmful stereotypes and discourse. We hope to combat this by showcasing Indigenous art and artists, supporting Land Back movements, and decolonizing our thoughts and actions. We welcome any feedback from Indigenous communities.

  • Art and cinema should encourage and foster empathy. We believe that art should challenge its audience to explore new ideas and perspectives. We introduce each show ourselves and encourage patrons to stay for a discussion after the screening.

OFX will occasionally feature works that may be considered shocking or controversial. We take our role as programmers seriously and are available for discussions about any works that may include sensitive material. Each entry on our event page lists ratings or other warnings.

  • OFX would like our community to know that everyone is welcome at our space and we will do everything in our power to prevent ICE presence in our area. Any form of harassment towards our community members and staff will not be tolerated.

We will deny ICE the ability to enter private areas without a judicial warrant. Private areas will be marked accordingly with “Employees Only” signs. ICE can enter public areas but do not have the official, legal authority to stop, question, or arrest anyone.

If you have any questions about our policy or your safety, please reach out to us and we will be happy to help, discuss, or provide what we can. We hope OFX can be part of an organized effort to ensure our community’s safety.

  • We are committed to the support and safety of all 2SLGBTQIA+ people in our community. Several founding members of OFX are queer and/or trans, so it is a priority for us to build a safe and inclusive community. We program queer film and art of all kinds, the more radical and liberating the better.

  • An important part of building community is starting with those close to us. We hope to showcase the talent and artistry of local creators, filmmakers, performers, and more. If you are interested in sharing your hard work with OFX and our patrons, contact us.
