Friday the 13th (1980)

  • 701 W Sheridan Ave Oklahoma City, OK 73102 (map)

It’s Friday the 13th…on Friday the 13th! What better film to represent the United States on our World Tour than this classic? OFX partner Raygun Busch hosts one of his all-time favorite movies on this special day, his half-birthday. (So you better tell him Happy Half-Birthday.) This film, though it may not seem like it now, was a landmark of independent filmmaking, becoming the first independent slasher film to be acquired and distributed by a major studio. It was utterly derided upon release, cast off as too exploitative and violent in its story and characters—but what’s more American than exploitation and violence? The slasher film is a monument of American identity, but we’ll let Raygun tell you about that.
