Join OFX partner River Lunsford and former Oklahoma State Representative Mauree Turner for a screening of Southern Comfort (2001) in honor of annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to honor the memory of transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.
Southern Comfort (2001) follows Robert Eads, a transgender man, in the final year of his life after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer and denied life-saving healthcare due to his identity. Kate Davis' seminal documentary shows us a nuanced look of transgender community in the southern United States, a found family of people surviving and living in spite of the institutional discrimination they face in daily life. The film explores Robert's identity, life, and relationships as he, his partner, and family prepare for the annual Southern Comfort Conference, one of the largest annual meetings of the transgender community in the United States.
