COLF joins OFX once again, this time with a public screening of Salt of the Earth (1954), the film that got 3 filmmakers blacklisted from Hollywood due to their alleged involvement in Communist politics. The film follows Mexican-American miners in New Mexico protesting unsafe working conditions and unequal pay. When an injunction forces the men to stop protesting, their wives find themselves at the picket line while the men stay at home.
This film is one of the first to advance a feminist social and political point of view. In 1992, it was added to the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry.
Film is not rated, audience discretion advised.
