OFX’s Raygun Busch and River Lunsford team up for this edition of Raygun’s monthly series. Big R and Little R are excited to present Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983), a moving, erotic war story for the ages.

Director Oshima Nagisa portrays the experiences of a British Lieutenant-Colonel John Lawrence (Tom Conti) in a prisoner of war camp in Japanese-occupied Indonesia. His account details the story of another British soldier, Jack Celliers (David Bowie), who becomes the fixation of Captain Yanoi (Ryuichi Sakamoto). Lawrence befriends Sergeant Hara (Kitano Takeshi) as they observe and navigate conflicts between the British POWs’ and Japanese army’s cultural understandings of shame, honor, and intimacy.
