OFX welcomes L.E.A.D. Agency, a grassroots environmental action organization, for a screening and discussion of Silkwood. Somewhat forgotten from our cultural memory despite some of the most well-known names in the film industry attached, this film tells the true story of Karen Silkwood, who worked at a plutonium plant in Logan County, Oklahoma and died in mysterious circumstances while on her way to expose the nuclear facility’s negligence. Nearly 50 years since the plant closed, uranium remains in Logan County’s groundwater today. Join L.E.A.D. and OFX as we screen Silkwood, learn about the history of resistance to nuclear energy in Oklahoma from people who experienced these events first-hand, and discuss nuclear issues affecting us today in a post-screening panel discussion.
Tickets are pay-what-you-can and admission is first-come, first-served. Doors open approximately 45 minutes before the listed showtime.
