Described as “horror in the purest sense of the word,” Cure (1997) questions the existence of ontological violence and natural capacity for evil. Join OFX partner River Lunsford for one of his favorite films, the progenitor of 2000s J-horror, and the grandfather of Memories of Murder (2003) and Zodiac (2007).
Cure (1997) follows a detective, Takabe, trying to uncover a series of murders confessed to by the killers but with seemingly no motive or reason. The more layers Takabe pulls back, the farther away he seems to get.
